Orange County Maglev Trains

Will Orange County, California be the starting point for a whole new transportation technology? Interesting stuff here about High Speed MagLev trains and Orange County.

Interesting stuff here about High Speed MagLev trains and Orange County.

Connections using High Speed Maglev trains from Anaheim to Las Vegas and a line that would get passengers from Orange County to Union Station in 30 minutes sound good to me.

The one big question here is why are so many people pushing for a 100 year old Overhead Electric train technology for a high speed rail corridor that could eventually run from Sacramento to San Diego , while passing through Los Angeles and, of course Orange County.

We’re talking about crossing hundreds of miles of open land, much of it desert, and it is difficult to comprehend why a lower maintenance technology like Maglev is not the first choice for the states’ northern and coastal routes. Of course, countries like Germany and Japan are building their Maglev public transportation infrastructure now. Guess we really showed em’ who the technology champs were in WWII.

  1. You ask, “…why are so many people pushing for…train technology for a high speed rail corridor that could eventually run from Sacramento to San Diego” and why “…a lower maintenance technology like Maglev is not the first choice for the state’s northern and coastal routes.” Good points.

The main reasoning I’ve heard is that maglev technology is not as mature and currently is not in widespread commercial service as high-speed rail is around the world. These are valid points, to be sure, but considering the time that’ll be required to construct the California HSR system, it seems to me that one demonstration corridor — such as the cities along the Orange Line, say — might be identified to be built with maglev technology as a way of addressing any technical or economic concerns.
